Christmas Cottage 2016

Hi friends!

I just wanted to share some photos from our Christmas celebration. Every year, the Christmas cottage is so magical for my family. My mom Mary and Dad Chris were there. My sister Kacey and brother-in-law James were there, as well as his parents Maryl and Jim and our friends Pete and Mary Kay! We had a wonderful time catching up with loved ones and eating yummy food. Fred and I were a bit late arriving because we had to make the trip after he got off work and we still weren't completely packed when he got home. I'd been out of town and he had been at work, so we both arrived at our place around the same time and it was a bit chaotic packing to leave. I've been juicing every day so every time we traveled this season, we had to pack up the juicer (which is pretty fragile) and pack fruits and veggies. I wish I would have been less stressed for us, but I was running around like crazy to get everything done. In the parking lot as I was slinging our luggage in the car, I realized water had leaked all over one of the bags. Water began pouring through the bag and out onto my tights and shoes. I was so annoyed. Fred helped me get everything cleaned up but somewhere in the cleaning chaos, my bag of snacks got thrown away and wasn't in the car for the trip with us. Sooo, about 20 minutes into the drive I reached for the snacks and they were nowhere to be found and I had to expres my extreme hunger (I hadn't eaten since breakfast). It didn't help our rush to get there that we had to stop along the journey to get me some food, but by the time we arrived we were feeling a lot more relaxed and finally ready to have fun!

When we did get there, we were just in time for the cocktail hour. We had some cheese and crackers and got to chat with our family a little bit. Then, it was time for dinner and the Christmas Carol reading! The set up is always so incredibly beautiful, I look forward to seeing the decorations every year.

The menu this year was:

Chicken & Backwoods Mushrooms, Strudel With Thyme Beurre Blanc, In Pastry Crusttade

Smoked Heirloom Tomato Bisque, With Mini Grilled Cheese

Arugula Bitter Greens With Shaved Parmesans, Roasted Winter Beets, Honey Dijon Vinaigrette

Vanilla Bean Pear Sorbet

Carolina Oven Roasted Quail With Sage Pumpernickel Farce, Black Truffle Risotto, Brocollini Fleurettes (Even though I had chicken instead of quail)

Orange Kentucky Bourbon Creme Brule

My favorite course was definitely the orange Kentucky bourbon creme brule, it was soooo delicious! I loved the mix of the orange and bourbon flavor and creme brule is a favorite of mine on it's own. Fred's favorite course was the tomato bisque with mini grilled cheese. I forgot to take pictures of each course like I had planned! But I got a few shots. I always want to document family events well but I never end up taking that many pictures or taking the time to set up good shots because I'm just relaxing and enjoying my time with them, but hopefully you'll enjoy some of these!

Our cabin was so adorable and cozy. After dinner, we got to warm up by the fire and sit in the hot tub for a bit. We were going to watch a movie when we got out of the hot tub but we were so exhausted that we just fell asleep on the big fluffy bed! The next morning we had raspberry scones and a sausage casserole type dish. I'm not a sausage person, but even that plate was delicious. I'm getting hungry just thinking about all the stuff we ate and I just had a huge breakfast haha.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday season! I'm still feeling festive, what about you?! Every year, I hold onto the season as long as I can. We haven't taken down our decorations yet!

Love,

Christina xx
