Recycling/Downsizing Your Wardrobe

Hi guys!

I've been so excited to create this post! This might be a helpful read if you love buying clothes/accessories like me, but you don't like to be wasteful! It took me awhile to find a system that worked well for me and I'm always looking for new ways to change and improve how I shop and spend. So this is definitely not a perfect solution or a perfectly eco-friendly, sustainable wardrobe system, but I have seen it do a lot of good and I'm always looking for more responsible fashion!

I am so so thankful that I have more than enough when it comes to clothes and accessories, but I really hate having things in my closet and house that I don't use/wear! With Spring right around the corner, you can get a head start on your spring cleaning and donate to many in need!

Here are some of my best tips:
Keep inventory and clean/organize often!
I try to keep at least a mental note of what is in my closet. I'm a big list person so I try to keep track of seasonal outfits in lists. This might sound crazy to some of you ha ha and maybe it is! I can take this stuff too seriously and I'm aware of that. I know that it's just clothes but I'm passionate about it so I enjoy spending the time keeping inventory of my clothes and accessories. I like to do seasonal check ins and see if there are items that I don't think I'll wear again and  then I choose to sell or donate  those so I don't have stuff just collecting dust.
Plan your outfits!
I think that this one can be hard for a lot of people. 1. It takes a little bit of time to put outfits together & 2. It might stifle some people's creativity if they can't put their outfit together on a whim. I have struggled with both of these things and they always made me rethink planning my outfits, however this tip has saved me a lot of money! For example, I will pick a certain number of outfits that I will need/want for a certain season and then stick to it. This helps me to not overspend because I have certain number of looks that I can create and then I can only buy things needed for those outfits. Picking a number keeps my wardrobe smaller too so I don't have clothes just sitting in my closet that I don't wear. If I want a new outfit, I have to sell or donate an old one. Also, I said season because I've found that really works for me to divide my clothes seasonally, but you can do whatever works best for you!
Donate professional/work wear to organizations like Dress for Success!
When going through your wardrobe, if you have unwanted professional/work wear and nice accessories and shoes consider donating the to an organization like Dress for Success. Dress for Success is a non-profit that empowers women to achieve economic independence. You can donate your professional clothes to their organization and they will be given to women in search of work and economic stability! It's an awesome awesome organization! You can check out their website to see if there are any locations near you.

Sell unwanted items on Ebay and there is a charity option!
I've been selling my clothes on Ebay for a few years now and I've had great success with it. There are a lot of other websites that allow you to buy and sell recycled clothes so you can search those too! Ebay does have a charity option so that's super cool! You can sign up so that a certain percentage of what you sell goes to the charity of your choice!

Collect your denim to make shoes... yes shoes for an organization like Sole Hope!
Sole Hope is an organization that uses denim to make shoes! You can host a shoe making party yourself or donate your old denim to a Sole Hope ambassador!
Sell to used clothing stores!
I take my clothes to Plato's Closet and Rag-O-Rama. This way you can make profit off of your clothes and use that money to buy your new clothes, or be put to a good use!

Donate your unwanted shoes!
There are organizations such as Soles4Souls that will take your old shoes and put them to good use!
Donate your old glasses!
There are great organizations that collect old eyeglasses! Check out Lions Club for example!

Research where to donate in your community!
If you simply want to donate your clothes, or you have clothes that didn't sell or fit into any other donating category, you can search where to donate within your community. A lot of time homeless shelters really need clothes! There's also a ton of donation centers that you can utilize it just depends where you live so you can easily research what's in your community.

I hope you enjoyed this and found it helpful! There seriously are so many options out there. Let me know how you recycle and downsize your wardrobe!

Have a great day!
